I’m not dairy- or gluten-intolerant, but I would imagine if you were both and vegetarian, it’d be hard to find a cookbook that caters for you. In that case, you’ll be interested in Wendy Horne’s No Meat, No Dairy, No Gluten: Just Flavour and Goodness (please note dairy-free doesn’t mean it’s a vegan cookbook, it’s not – it contains recipes that contain eggs).
If you can get over the onslaught of the alliteration of each chapter (‘A Selection of Soups’, ‘A Sprinkling of Salads’, ‘A Multitude of Main Courses’, ‘A Temptation of Terrines’ – do I have to go on? No? Thank goodness for that), you’ll find a huge selection of tasty and wholesome recipes such as courgette and potato cakes, honey-baked aubergines, pesto rice, toasted hazelnut burgers and chilli potatoes. Desserts aren’t left out and there’s a whole chapter dedicated to them called ‘A Perfection of Puddings and Cakes’ (I did warn you about the alliteration) containing dishes such as apple flapjack, coconut and mango fool and chocolate, pear and hazelnut truffle torte. The final chapter contains relishes, sauces and chutneys, including the intriguing runner bean chutney.
No Meat, No Dairy, No Gluten: Just Flavour and Goodness has an RRP of £9.99 and is published by www.howtobooks.co.uk
