You’d be forgiven for thinking Ombar were trying to take the fun out of chocolate with their Ombar Blonde Caramelised White Choco Bar.
But, despite their proclamations of it:
- containing
- less than half the sugar of ‘traditional’ white chocolate
- all natural ingredients
- being free from
- dairy
- palm oil
- emulsifiers
- additives
- artifical sweeteners
- ultra-processed ingredients
- and being
- organic
- vegan
- fair trade
- gluten free
- dairy-free
and making it sound almost as healthy as a box of vegetables, I can truthfully say the Ombar Blonde Caramelised White Choco Bar isn’t boring. In fact, it’s just like any other good white chocolate bar, vegan or otherwise, except for being a light caramel colour and the Madagascan vanilla giving it a more grown up feel.

Appearance, taste and texture
This vegan white chocolate bar is a light caramel colour, with flecks of vanilla peeking through and is as delicious as it looks.
It’s thin enough to snap easily should you wish to eat it daintily or share it so, unlike that other well-known fair trade chocolate manufacturer, you can actually eat it without raiding your shed for power tools.
Ombar’s ethics
You’re not going to find protesters outside Ombar’s offices, oh no. This is because Ombar are super-ethicial and buy high quality, organic cacao directly from farmers in Ecuador for more than fair trade prices.
Ombar then bring that cacao back to Cambridge where they produce their products in small batches to their own unique recipes.

Ombar Blonde Ingredients
There aren’t many ingredients in Ombar Blonde. Look:
- Dessicated coconut
- Cocoa butter
- Chicory root fibre
- Pure dried sugar cane juice
- Caramelised sugar
- Vanilla extract
- Madagascan bourbon vanilla powder
That’s it.
Where to buy Ombar Blonde
If you’re after a good quality white vegan chocolate bar and like the sound of Ombar Blonde, you can find it in the Free From aisle in Tesco (hopefully it’ll get promoted to the confectionary aisle as it deserves a wider audience).
